Recent studies have shown that children who have musical training do better in other areas of achievement, especially mathematics.  Neurologists have discovered that daily music practice creates neural connections between the right and left brain which do not exist for those who are not engaged in musical activities.  Music education can help develop self-confidence, personal discipline, goal-setting and leadership skills.

I first began to explore the language of music as a preschooler…singing songs at Sunday School, playing musical games with my brother and sisters and picking out simple melodies on our big, old piano.  I’m thankful that my parents set aside a portion of their limited resources to provide piano lessons for all 6 of us!  Today, music remains an important part of our daily lives.  For myself it has brought years of enjoyment as a choir leader, director of children’s musicals, accompanist, ensemble musician, school volunteer and teacher.
